Subject: BadRAM in mainstream Linux? Dear BadRAM user, Sometime durin the past few years, we've been in contact over my BadRAM patch for Linux. People have repeatedly asked me if BadRAM shouldn't go into mainstream kernels, but I've never taken the time to get it going. Still, as a former/current user you would probably love to see it happen. I need a bit of help to make a convincing proposal. The patch has been supported for quite a few years and it has shown its merit. But I have not been capable of keeping up with new kernels. If any of you does follow new kernels, it may be possible to test new kernels with BadRAM built-in against a bad memory module. If one or more of you are interested in making sure that new versions do keep work on broken memory we can make a strong point about support. I will keep supporting the feature over email, as I've always done. But I cannot perform these tests at the rate at which kernels come out. You may want to vouch your positive experiences with the patch when I actually post the proposal -- which would be in one or two weeks, given that I find the much-needed testers for new kernels. If you have the time to follow the kernel mailing list for some time, and help out by sharing your views and responses, that'd be quite useful. Finally, if anyone would be interested in being my backup (in case I am overridden by a horse and carriage, say) for email support, it may be good to know that in advance and state it along with the proposal. The proposal is going to be to include BadRAM, not the fork BadMEM. It is going to be enough of an effort to include the minimal patch without it's /proc extensions. I like to propose the smallest possible patch so we stand the biggest possible chance of getting it accepted. I am looking forward to your replies. Sincerely, Dr.ir.
